Guimarães is called the “cradle city” due to having been the first capital when Portugal was founded, in 1143. The historic center of Guimarães, an area that was within the walls, was classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001, based on the values of originality and authenticity with which it was recovered. It was also the European Capital of Culture in 2012.

The tour will start at the Castelo de Guimarães, a medieval castle built in the 10th century and strongly linked to the foundation of Portugal, heading to the Paço dos Duques de Bragança, built in the 15th century. Continue to the historic center passing by Santa Clara Convent, São Tiago Square, Largo and Nossa Senhora da Oliveira Church, ending at Nossa Senhora da Consolação and Santos Passos Church (also known as São Gualter Church) .

The visit to Guimarães ends with Braga, one of the oldest cities in the country, known for its history and architecture. It is also a vibrant and dynamic city as a result of its university and its young residents. Founded over 2000 years ago during the Roman Empire, Braga was located on one of the main Roman roads in the Iberian Peninsula and a crossing point for one of the Ways to Santiago.

Stop at the Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary is assured. World Heritage Site since 2019, you can get involved in its monumental staircase and even visit its Basilica. The rest of the tour will take place in the historic center of Braga, where you can visit some of the city’s many churches, stroll through the most typical streets, visit the Porta Nova Arch, ending in the magnificent Cathedral of Braga, where you will have the opportunity to visit the Treasure-Museum, Chapels and the High Choir.
